On October 4, the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration announced a need for 1,310 additional nursing home beds throughout the state. The announcement represents the largest prediction of bed need since the state lifted a 14-year moratorium on the development of additional nursing home beds in 2014. The spike in need is due to high utilization of existing beds and expected growth in elderly residents in pockets of the state.
